Tetris Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That
Whenever a prominent honors show nears, there’s always a demand for the addition fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of fans with niche passions.
A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.
- One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category that year
- Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
- Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
- Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often small games, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
